Freeport, Illinois — TOP STORY: Residents who signed up for Freeport’s Electrical Aggregation Program in hopes of saving money on their electricity costs are in for a surprise.

For nearly 5 years you may have thought you were saving all the money you could through this local energy program. We recently discovered however, that’s not entirely the case.

Instead of saving all you could have saved on your electricity costs, you have been secretly profiting the city with a tax disguised as a grant. A tax, that was built directly into the kilowatt hour and one that totals nearly $250,000. Money that should have went back in your pocket but didn’t.
