Freeport, Illinois — September 2, 2017 — The Baker’s Memorial Fun Fly was held yesterday in Freeport and throughout the day nearly 100 people came out to watch and participate in an annual event that is truly a lot of fun. According to their website, the Freeport Radio Control Modelers Club was organized on August 3, 1963 when 12 flyers met to form a club with the objective of promoting the building and flying of radio controlled model aircraft. They told us yesterday they now have 32 members.
The, which meets regularly, is accredited by the Academy of Model Aeronautics (AMA Charter #253). All flying club members are required to maintain an annual membership in the AMA. The club leases a field about 2 miles north of Freeport and 1 mile west of Hwy 26. This is a grass field maintained by club members called Baker’s Field.
Yesterday’s event was held from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. Here are some photos from the event.
