Dairy Days Parade, Ag Breakfast, Tractor Caravan And Cubs Win – This And More From The Farm Bureau

Limited seats available for Cubs games

bruce-johnsonDue to a few cancellations and the exhaustion of our waiting list with the addition of another game, we have a few tickets available for two of our summer baseball game trips. We have three seats available for our July 20 game between the Chicago Cubs and New York Mets at Wrigley Field in Chicago (a rematch of last year’s National League championship series), and we have a single seat available for our September 6 trek to Miller Park in Milwaukee to see the Cubs battle their arch rival Milwaukee Brewers. The Chicago trip leaves at 9 a.m. for the 1:20 p.m. start, and the Milwaukee outing departs at 4 p.m. for the 7:10 p.m. game. Both games offer great seats and excellent matchups, so call us if you’re interested. Details can be found at www.stephensoncfb.org.

Sign up now for Town & Country Classic Tractor Caravan

Co-sponsored by Stephenson County Farm Bureau and Union Dairy, our June 18 Town & Country Classic Tractor Caravan will begin with tractors arriving at our starting point downtown beginning at 8 a.m., with a continental breakfast provided for drivers. At 9 a.m. we’ll depart on our 32-mile drive that will blend a scenic and relaxing rural route with a course in Freeport that will include drives through the parking lots of seven local senior living centers to provide residents a glimpse of the beautiful classic iron on the parade. The drive will proceed to Union Dairy for a tractor show open to the public from 12-4 p.m., where all drivers will get a lunch voucher and door prizes will be awarded. The flyer and registration form can be found at www.stephensoncfb.org or at the Farm Bureau office, and you can call (815) 232-3186 for more information.

Give the gift of life at Ag Breakfast

Once again this year we are hosting a blood drive at the Stephenson County Ag Breakfast on Saturday June 25 from 6:30-11 a.m., and the recent shortages at area blood banks makes the need even greater. Blood demand is at a heightened level while supplies are desperately low, and the combination of surgeries, accidents, shootings, and other circumstances makes for a difficult situation. Because of this, we are going to sweeten our deal even more for those who take the time to donate blood that day. As always, we will reimburse all donors for the cost of their breakfast and will give all first-time donors a free season pass to the 2016 Stephenson County Fair. This year, we will also enter the names of all donors into a drawing for a $25 Farm & Fleet gift card. You can go online to www.rrvbc.org to self-schedule, or call the FB office at (815) 232-3186.

Cubs win!

As part of a visit to see the kids and grandkids in Des Moines on Memorial Day weekend, Andrea and I enjoyed a relaxing visit to Principal Park in Des Moines to watch the Iowa Cubs take on the Albuquerque Isotopes on May 27. We love the atmosphere and character of minor league baseball, and even though the I-Cubs are in last place in their division they delivered an exciting 6-1 victory. Great seats, great food and great fireworks after the game made for a wonderful evening, followed by a morning run, a visit to Des Moines’ incredible downtown farmers’ market, and a fun visit with family.

Sign up now for Dairy Days Parade

The registration form is posted on our website for the 2016 Dairy Days Parade on Sunday June 26, and we encourage groups and individuals to sign up their entries as we celebrate agriculture in Stephenson County. The parade will kick off at 1:30 p.m. from the corner of Van Buren and Washington and wind through the downtown area, passing by the announcer’s stand at the Stewart Center before concluding near the Stephenson County Health Department on Linden Street. We’re happy to have the fun-loving, dynamic Lowdown Brass Band from Chicago coming back again, compliments of our area Pioneer Seed dealers, and we also plan to have the Lena-Winslow marching band in the lineup along with a variety of other entries. You can access the form at www.stephensoncfb.org or at the FB office at 210 W. Spring Street in Freeport. Join us for a great time at the 2016 Dairy Days Parade on June 26!
