Freeport, Illinois — At its regular meeting held Tuesday evening, the Freeport School District Board of Education discussed a series of key priorities that the Department of Curriculum & Instruction will be focusing on
during the 2018-2019 school year.
The department continues to develop an aligned instructional system in an effort to increase academic achievement for all students and ensure Freeport students are prepared to compete globally. One priority for 2018-19 will be to monitor and sustain the district’s new curriculums while ensuring they are implemented uniformly and equitably across all FSD schools.
Other priorities include rolling out a 1 to 1 device initiative in grades 9-12 to support teaching and learning,
delving deeper into data analysis to inform instruction, emphasizing a focus on Project Based Learning, and providing high quality, focused professional learning.
Additionally the board reviewed a proposed update of the Board Policy Manual to align with Illinois Association of School Board policies. This item will return to the Board for action at its September 18th meeting.
Also the board approved the Freeport High School Show Choir Tour. This year’s tour will take place March 21 to 27,
2019, and is organized by Mr. Dan Wessler and Mr. Derrick Simons. There is no financial impact on the District budget as students participate in various fundraising activities to support the tour.
The public is always invited and encouraged to attend Freeport School District Board of Education meetings. The next scheduled regular meeting will be held Tuesday, September 18, 2018, at 6:00 PM at the Freeport Middle School Conference Center. The Board will also meet for a special meeting on Tuesday, September 11, 2018, at 5:30 PM at the FSD Administration Building to conduct a board self-evaluation.
