If You Get A Call From The Freeport Police, It May Not Actually Be The Police

Freeport, Illinois — A number of people in the city of Freeport have reported receiving phone calls where the caller ID number is showing up as the number of the Freeport Police Department.

Freeport Police stated yesterday that at least 2 individuals say they received phone calls from the number (815) 235-8222, which is the Freeport Police non-emergency number.

One of the individuals who received such a call stated when they answered they phone, there was a person on the other end of the line. The person calling proceeded to tell them that they were at the police department, and were calling because the person had left a note on their car.

“I just received a phone call from an individual stating he was at the Freeport Police Dept and that I had left a note on his car stating I had hit his vehicle.”

Freeport Police said another person was “yelled at” as the individual calling claimed that their vehicle was “struck by” the citizen.

Police say there was no demand for money or any attempt made to extort the citizens. Freeport Police want to be clear that the calls were not made by Freeport Police Officers and did not originate from the Department.
