One person dead after being hit by car in downtown Freeport

Freeport, Illinois — At approximately 4:00 p.m. yesterday afternoon an individual whose name has not yet been released, was reportedly struck by a car as they were leaving the F.A. Read Center in downtown Freeport. Freeport Police say the individual struck was flown to Rockford by helicopter yesterday afternoon. The Winnebago County Coroners office confirmed this morning that the person struck by the vehicle has passed away, according to police.

The identity of the individual has not been released pending notification of family.

UPDATE: 3:13 p.m. — The Winnebago County Coroners office has released the name of the victim of yesterday’s pedestrian involved accident as 76-year-old Earle Moote.  Moote was the owner of the F.A. Read Center.
