Pearl City, Illinois – Thursday, April 7, 2016 was “Reading Fitness” day at Pearl City Elementary. Deb Endress and Lisa Bott from ROE #8 shared strategies to strengthen students’ reading, science, technology, engineering and math skills. Kindergarten through 2nd grade engaged in several vocabulary activities. Grades 3-6 participated in a STEM simulation where a volcano erupted. The students were actively engaged in activities which involved close reading math problems, designing a structure that could withstand ash fall and writing a written response that included text evidence from several different articles. By successfully completing these activities, the students could earn Resource Cards.
