Three Hour Bus Rides – Are Freeport’s Bus Rides Too Long?

Freeport, Illinois – Years ago we remember hearing many stories of parents with children who ride the bus in Freeport and numerous concerns and complaints about long bus rides.

One parent early today stated this his daughter is just 4 years old and in preschool and that she goes to school from 8:30 to 12:00, which is 3 1/2 hours.

The parents concern? She gets on the bus at 6:55 and gets home around 1:20 which is a total of 3 hours on the bus everyday. Three hours, for her 3 1/2 hours of school.

We’d like to know what your experience is.

Does your child ride the bus for “hours” a day? Do you feel bus rides are way too long for our Freeport students, especially students so young, or do you feel driving time is appropriate?

    My only comment is this, preschool is still optional. Children are not required to start school at 3 & there ARE other options for transporting your child to/from school. If you are unhappy with what the district provides, explore other options…..better yet, I’ve heard there may be an opening on the school board, become a part of the solution.
