Volunteer Organizations Offer Shelter, Meals to Residents Impacted By Floods

Stephenson County, Illinois — July 26, 2017 — Stephenson County residents in need of a place to stay after being displaced by recent flooding are encouraged to come to one of the local shelters open in the City of Freeport.

The Freeport Area Church Cooperative (FACC) announced Monday the opening of an emergency shelter located at 514 South Chicago Avenue in Freeport and will be open nightly from 6:00 PM to 8:00 AM. NICAA’s Golden Meals program will provide evening meals served at 7:00 PM.

The American Red Cross has opened a shelter location in the Aquin Catholic High School building at 1419 South Galena Ave in Freeport. The shelter can be accessed through the rear gym entrance off of Empire Street. The Red Cross will also be providing meals at their shelter and will remain open as long as clients are present.

Salvation Army will be providing meals to impacted residents at the Taylor Park School cafeteria at 806 East Stephenson Street in Freeport. Evening meals will be served daily from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM. In additional to the evening meals, lunch will be served from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM on Saturday and Sunday.

Salvation Army will continue to provide its regular Community Meal program at 106 West Exchange Street in Freeport from 11:00 AM to 12:15 PM.

Stephenson County residents are reminded to contact the Damage Assessment Call Center at 815-801-0004 to report any damage to their homes and businesses as a result of the recent severe weather and flooding.
