11 Pounds of Marijuana Seized Believed To Be In Transport From Los Angeles to Freeport

Amarillo, TX – The Texas Department of Public Safety seized over 11 pounds of marijuana during a traffic stop Sunday on I-40.

At approximately 2:20 p.m., a DPS trooper stopped to assist a motorist in a 1983 Chevrolet Chevette on I-40 near Conway, in Carson County. During the encounter the trooper says he smelled marijuana coming from the inside of the vehicle. The driver then admitted to being in possession of drugs.

A search revealed 11 packages of marijuana and small amount of hash. The marijuana was valued at over $68,000.

The driver was identified as Ricardo Carrillo, 23, of Freeport, Illinois. Carrillo was arrested and booked into Carson County Jail on felony charges of possession of marijuana and possession of a controlled substance.

Officials believe the illegal drugs were possibly being transported from Los Angeles to Freeport.
