Freeport, Illinois — Did you know Freeport’s incorporation date was on the very same day as Valentines Day?
This 2017 year marks the 162nd anniversary of the incorporation of the City of Freeport and the City, along with the Freeport Area Chamber of Commerce, are hosting a ribbon cutting ceremony at the new City Hall located at 314 West Stephenson Street.
The ribbon cutting ceremony will be on the anniversary of Freeport’s incorporation which is Tuesday, February 14, 2017 at 12:00 PM (Noon).
The city announced that immediately following the ceremony the building will be open for a private tour for special guests and City employees.
The building will also be open to the public from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM that same day. The Mayor and City officials will be in attendance to greet visitors.
A special thank you goes to Scott Winter of Winter Design, the architect for the project and his staff and Freeport City Engineer, Shaun Gallagher.
Mayor Jim Gitz noted that this project was completed on time and within budget. The mayor also noted that “special attention was given to preserving historic value while at the same time making this a functional City Hall for staff and Freeport residents to be proud of. I am particularly pleased that we have repurposed this very special building and brought new life to this historic structure after years of sitting empty.”
