Another Murder Suspect Behind Bars Today – William Hines Is Getting Justice

The Freeport Police department announced that on 01/07/16 at approximately 10:00 A.M., Darrell Thompson, 20 of Freeport, was taken into custody at the Stephenson County Court House for 2 counts of 1st Degree Murder in regard to the shooting death of William Hines on 07/30/2015. Thompson’s bond has been set at $4,000,000. The arrest came after months of follow-up and interviews conducted by the Freeport Police Department.

Earl Fane and Bryan Ulmer were previously arrested for the same offense and are currently awaiting trial at the Stephenson County Jail. Mayor Jim Gitz heralded the work of Freeport detectives in finding and arresting Darrell Thompson. “Obviously an arrest is only the first step in bringing justice to William Hines’ murder,” said the mayor. “Now it is up the court system to determine guilt or innocence of those charged.”

Each arrestee in this case is believed by the court to be innocent until proven guilty.
