WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congresswoman Cheri Bustos (IL-17) announced that she has nominated seven Illinois students for admission to the United States Service Academies for the class entering in the fall of 2016. Each year, Bustos has the honor of nominating qualified young people from Illinois’ 17th Congressional District for attendance at four service academies: the U.S. Military Academy in West Point, NY, the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD, the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, CO, and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, NY. Nominees must now be accepted by the academies to gain admittance.
“America is the greatest nation in the world because we’ve always had hardworking young men and women willing to answer the call and serve,” said Congresswoman Cheri Bustos. “I want to thank all of our academy nominees for their dedication and commitment to building a better future for all of our families, and I wish them all the best in this new adventure.”
Bustos selected the seven students for eight nominations through the counsel of an advisory board that was comprised of former service academy attendees and Naval Academy Blue & Gold officers.
