Freeport, Illinois – It’s a story no one ever wants to report. A fatal accident. This time three victims, a fire, one survivor and a scene nearly impossible for us to grasp so close to home. That was the news this past Sunday early in the morning.
Sunday evening on the way back to Freeport, Illinois, a local Freeport family met their fate in such a sad way. Delilah Cleveland, 41, Darryl Cleveland, 16, and Jonathan White, 19 all lost their lives in an single vehicle accident on U.S. 20 roughly a half a mile west of Pecatonica Road. Delilah Cleveland was the mother of both Darryl Cleveland and Jonathan White. Even more, there was a fourth passenger who survived it all.
As the owner of Benchwarmers often does, when Eric White heard of the tragedy he immediately began pondering how he could help the family with funeral costs which, are upwards of $20,000 dollars. After seeing all the community unity and all the tears for the family, Eric decided to have a massive public event and give all the proceeds (100% of them) directly to the family.
So on Saturday, March 12, 2016 Benchwarmers, located at 2143 W. Galena Avenue will be in their grill pit area cooking up what might be thousands and thousands of Johnsonville brats and pulled pork sandwiches from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. Come enjoy a Brat with a bag of Chips and a Pop for just $5.00, or enjoy a Pulled Pork Sandwich and a bag of chips and a pop for the same price. $5.00 and it all goes towards funeral costs.
When we spoke with Eric he told us, “we will provide all the food, we need the community to provide the people and together, we can provide a proper burial for this family“. Many other local businesses such as Mrs. Mikes, Bocker Automotive Group, Fairway Ford, Ridott Corners, Cub Foods, Culligan Water, Shoe Sensation and many other volunteers have donated their food and support for this cause as well. Eric told us they will be having a a few silent auction things and will also be selling shirts and hoodies.
Come out to Benchwamers on Saturday March 12, 2016
from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. and
show your support for this family in incredible need.
Thank you Eric White and all the others involved for being local business owners (and people) with a heart for the people in our community.
