Freeport, Illinois — September 11, 2018 – Freeport Community Foundation announces our new Youth Advisory Council Director, Christy Youtzy. Christy is also Director of Outreach at the Family YMCA of Northwest Illinois. She is in the process of recruiting members for the 2018-2019 Youth Advisory Council board.
YAC will be kicking off its 10th year by sharing information at the Highland Servant Leadership program on September 22 from 9:00 a.m. to Noon at Highland’s Student Center. The first meeting will be held on October 20, 2018 with pizza and goal setting from Noon to 1:30 p.m. in Room H210A of the Student Center at HCC. Members must be 14-20 years of age, attend a monthly 1-hour meeting from October through April, and have an interest in supporting their community.
YAC’s goals are to empower youth to be involved in decision making, be active participants in leadership and community service, and be part of awarding youth-related grants that will improve the quality of life for youth in area communities. YAC members learn about leadership skills, writing and reviewing grant applications, team decision-making skills, and philanthropy – the giving of time, talent or treasure for the common good!
