Free Meals To All Students – New FSD#145 Program Effective Immediately

All Freeport School District students will now have the opportunity to eat breakfast and lunch at school at no cost. The district has been accepted to participate in the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP), a four-year alternative program through the U.S. Department of Agriculture that is available to schools participating in the National School Lunch and School Breakfast Programs.

Effective immediately, this program enables our schools to provide one reimbursable breakfast and one reimbursable lunch each day for ALL students enrolled in the Freeport School District at no charge. Students who would like to purchase an additional a la carte item or milk may continue to do so using funds on their student lunch account. The CEP program means parents will not need to complete a free and reduced meal application at registration for the next school year.

Upon the completion of School Year 2015-2016, parents or guardians will be able to request a refund of any remaining funds on student accounts via our Food Service Department, or they may elect to keep those funds on the account for future use in purchasing additional food service items.

Any current negative student balances will remain and follow the student until they are paid.  Through the federal program, FSD will receive reimbursement for breakfast and lunch for all students.

“Children that are well fed are better able to focus in class and, ultimately, do better in school,” said Amanda Williams, FSD Director of Food Service. “We look forward to seeing the ways this opportunity will increase our ability to educate every student in the Freeport School District.”
