Freeport, Illinois – Well, here’s one for the record books. Over the weekend in Freeport hundreds of people were out and about enjoying the nice weather, especially on Sunday. As we all know, the first sign of nice weather, people tend to be more consumed with being out, then sometimes being safe and often, that’s no more apparent then when people are driving.
Well, one driver over the weekend met that criteria and forgot, (or failed) to put their vehicle in park when they came home. Their car rolled across the street and into a neighbors yard, much to everyone’s surprise. Neighbors on the scene took the following photos.
We talked with one of the neighbors who told us the vehicle almost hit him in his driveway and went on to say, “What if it was a kid walking home or riding their bike, it could have been deadly“. Witnesses said the vehicle cut across the road and jumped into a neighbors yard. The street? The very busy, kid filled Walnut street in Freeport.
Fortunately no one was hurt in the mishap but somewhere here, we believe there’s a message for us all. Be safe out there. Double check, look again, make sure and even when you’re busy, late for work or, just enjoying a nice day in town, don’t forget to pay attention to everything. Cars kill people. In this case, you don’t even have to be driving one for that to happen.
