Freeport’s Kevin Kirkpatrick Unveils Iconic “Big Harry” For 20th Annual Worldwide Toast

Chicago, Illinois — On February 15th an annual celebration of Harry Caray’s extraordinary life will take place at Harry Caray’s Italian Steakhouse in River North. This year marks the 20th anniversary of Harry’s passing on February 18, 1998. According to Harry Caray’s website, the theme of this year’s Toast to Caray is SPACE, THE INFINITE FRONTIER—a nod to Will Ferrell’s Harry Caray SNL skit and also because Armageddon, Deep Impact, Star Trek and other space movies dominated in 1998.

Along with a LIVE broadcast by WGN from 4p– 7p, Chicago Cubs Hall of Famer Ryne Sandberg will lead the Toast at 6:30p with a rousing rendition of Harry’s favorite song, “Take Me out to the Ball Game.” Also, we get an exclusive first look at “Big Harry” a lifelike bust of Harry created by award-nominated make-up artist and fine artist Kevin Kirkpatrick. Kirkpatrick is a Freeport, Ill., native and life-long Cub fan. Between doing prosthetic make-up work on TV series such as “Westworld” and movies such as “Guardians of the Galaxy”.

Kirkpatrick spent 6 months and $30,000 in materials to make the incredible lifelike bust of Harry which will be on display at The Harry Caray Sport’s Museum. Here, Kirkpatrick unveils his “Big Harry” masterpiece on Windy City Live.

In addition, several unique items and artifacts will be on display, including:

  • The Harry Caray costume from Will Ferrell’s famous SNL skits.
  • Moon rocks and meteorites from the Adler Planetarium.
  • Captain Kirk and Mr. Spock’s Tunics from Star Trek’s first season.
  • Former Chicago Cub Matt Szczur’s painting of Harry in space.
