FREEPORT, ILLINOIS — Freeport School District will soon welcome a new leader to Carl Sandburg School. After a closed session at a special meeting on May 23rd, the Freeport School District Board of Education voted to appoint Dr. Jennifer Macek as Principal of Carl Sandburg School.
Dr. Macek comes to Carl Sandburg from her current position as Director of Multi-Tiered Systems of Support for Rockford Public Schools, a role she has held since July 2017. Prior to that, she served as an assistant principal at Roosevelt Community Education Center in Rockford for four years. She has also gained experience by serving as a teacher in Rockford Public Schools for 14 years.
Dr. Macek holds a Doctor of Education degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Northern Illinois University (2019). She also holds a Master’s degree in School Leadership from Northern Illinois University (2016), a Master’s degree in Special Education from Rockford College (2004), and a Bachelor of Science degree from Northern Illinois University (1997).
Dr. Macek has received several awards during her career in education, including the Illinois State Board of Education’s Those Who Excel Award of Excellence, the Golden Apple Award, and the Rotary Club Teacher of the Year Award.
Dr. Macek will succeed Mr. Ben Asche, who resigned for personal reasons. She will begin her new role on July 1, 2019.
