FSD#145 Board Appoints New Leadership at Three Schools

Freeport School District will welcome three new administrators following this school year. After a closed session at its regular meeting on May 3rd, the Freeport School District Board of Education voted to appoint Renee Coleman as the 2016-2017 Assistant Principal of Freeport Middle School, Matthew Bohrer as the 2016-2017 Principal of Lincoln-Douglas Elementary School, and Jennifer De Jong as the 2016-2017 Principal of Jones-Farrar Magnet School.

Coleman will succeed FMS Interim Asst. Principal Jennifer De Jong, who has been serving in the position since Brian Lamm took on the principal position at Taylor Park Elementary School earlier this year. She comes to FMS from her current position as a 3rd grade teacher at Taylor Park
Elementary School. She previously held several instructional positions at Legacy Academy of Excellence Charter School in Rockford and at several schools under the Chicago Board of Education.

Coleman holds both a Master’s degree in Administration and Supervision and a Master’s degree in Elementary Education from the University of Phoenix, as well as a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration with an emphasis in accounting from Fisk University.

Bohrer will succeed current Lincoln-Douglas Principal Deb Gunnarsson. Bohrer comes to Lincoln Douglas from his current position as principal of Indian Knoll Elementary School in West Chicago. He was previously the principal at Rupley Elementary School (Elk Grove, IL), Prairie Hill School
(Cary, IL), and Deer Path Elementary School (Cary, IL). He has also had experience as an assistant principal and classroom teacher.

Bohrer holds a Master of Science degree in Education Leadership from Aurora University, a Master of Science degree in Mathematics Education from the University of Illinois at Chicago, and a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from Manchester College

De Jong will succeed current Jones-Farrar Principal Jackie Nieukirk. De Jong comes to Jones-Farrar from her current position as an Instructional Coach with the Freeport School District. She has also served as a Middle Level English Instructional Leader for the district, and has had several years of experience as an instructor at the elementary, middle and high school levels.

De Jong holds a Master of Education degree in Educational Leadership from National Louis University and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education with a Minor in Psychology from Olivet Nazarene University.

“We are looking forward to the positive impact on student learning these leaders will bring to the Freeport School District,” says Superintendent Mike Schiffman. The administrators will begin their new roles on July 1st, 2016.
