Freeport, Illinois — #GivingTuesday is a national day of giving that follows Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, and Cyber Monday. On this day, more than 10,000 non-profits and partners across the country come together and offer opportunities for people to get involved with their work and make a difference this holiday season.
The United Way of Northwest Illinois’ goal for #GivingTuesday is that individuals will take the opportunity to donate to a worthy cause, give their time, and lend their talents and expertise to the work that is being done to make a difference in their local community.
This day is also an opportunity to redefine giving as much more than an act of short-term charity for a few; when you give, you can become an essential part of long-term solutions that benefit everyone.
In celebration of #GIVINGTUESDAY the United Way of Northwest Illinois will be offering a variety of options for giving back on a local level and encouraging people to share the message about #GIVINGTUESDAY.
First you can “like” our facebook page and find templates for you and your co-workers to take #unselfies.
What is an #unselfie?
An unselfie is a picture of you doing something kind, showing compassion, or sharing your thoughts about giving back to the community and why you do it, thereby encouraging others to do the same!
The first $500 raised will be matched by the Freeport Community Foundation. (It is charitable giving’s version of “buy one, get one free”!)
You can view local volunteer opportunities by clicking the “Click Here to Volunteer” button at the bottom of the page
You can text “igiveunited” to 71777 and make a donation right from your mobile phone. These donations will also be matched by the Freeport Community Foundation, up to $500.
Many of our non-profits rely on the local community for support not just during the holidays, but all year round. We hope that #GivingTuesday helps showcase how giving back to the community can be easy and fun!
