Post Christmas Mobil Shooting – Two Arrested, Police Searching for Third

Freeport, Illinois – December 26th Gas Station Shooting. Two suspects arrested following shots fired call at a Freeport gas station.

On December 26th 2016, at approximately 2:45pm, Freeport Police Officers responded to a shots fired call at the Mobil gas station located at 1111 S. West Avenue in Freeport. In the Mobil gas station parking lot, responding Officers found Rita McClellan (age 57), and Anthony Todd McClellan (age 50), both of Freeport, both with single gunshot wounds to their legs.

Also at this time, Officers observed two subjects, later identified as Lashawn Adams and Javian Adams running eastbound from the scene. A foot pursuit was initiated, and Lashawn Adams and Javian Adams were both apprehended in the 600 block of W. Chestnut Street. Javian Adams was found to have a gunshot wound to his left leg. Officers did recover a handgun in the immediate vicinity of where the foot pursuit ended.

The resulting investigation revealed that gunshots were fired during an altercation between Anthony Todd McClellan and several subjects who were part of a group that included Lashawn Adams and Javian Adams. A white Chevrolet Impala that was involved in this incident was involved in a Hit & Run at Walnut Avenue and Broadway Street while fleeing from the Mobil gas station scene. The driver of that vehicle has not been located yet.

Lashawn Adams were arrested and lodged at the Stephenson County Jail. Javian Adams was lodged at the Stephenson County Jail after being treated at Freeport Health Network Memorial Hospital.

Rita McClellan was treated at Freeport Health Network Memorial Hospital for a non-life threatening gunshot wound and released. Anthony Todd McClellan was transferred to a hospital in Rockford for a non-life threatening gunshot wound.

There is one subject who Police are actively looking for in connection with this investigation, Raymond E. Adams (age 33) of Freeport. Raymond Adams currently has several outstanding warrants for his arrest and he should be considered armed and dangerous.
