Pretzel Alumnus Phil Farrar to Visit Jones-Farrar IB World School

Freeport, Illinois — Students at Jones-Farrar IB World School are looking forward to a visit from FHS alumnus Phil Farrar this week as the nationally recognized broadcast journalist returns to his hometown to be inducted into the Pretzel Hall of Fame.

Mr. Farrar will be the guest at an assembly at Jones-Farrar IB World School at 10 AM on Friday, September 21, 2018. The school is named in part after Mr. Farrar’s mother, Jean Johnson Farrar, a FHS graduate who served for 17 years as the second director of Head Start for Northwestern Illinois. Mr. Farrar will speak about his mother and why the school carries her name, as well as read some stories to the students.

He began his career as a news and sports anchor/reporter at Rockford’s then ABC affiliate WREX-TV. He currently lives in San Diego and anchors the Weekend Edition at AM 600 KOGO Radio.

Mr. Farrar will also visit Freeport High School to speak with students at 1 PM and will be recognized at the FHS Hall of Fame Banquet on September 22nd at 6 PM at the Freeport Eagles Club.
