FREEPORT, ILLINOIS — As one of the only farmers markets opening on time in the state of Illinois, the Stephenson County Farmers Market announced last week they will be open in downtown Freeport this coming Saturday, May 9.
“In order to keep this market open, we have to follow state recommendations for markets”, organizers of the Stephenson County Farmers Market said. “Please wear a mask, and do not touch the produce – most importantly.”
The Stephenson County Farmers Market is asking patrons to place money on the table when they want to buy something, which the vendor will then pick up and put your change due, if any, back on the table.
The market said vendors will handle produce until it is in your (preferably reusable) bag. The market says they are limiting vendor tents to one household at a time.
“Please limit socializing at this time, so we don’t get shut down. The state is opening back up slowly, so hopefully these guidelines are just for a few weeks.”
The Stephenson County Farmers Market will be open every Saturday morning starting May 9th, from 8:00am – 12:00pm through the end of October.
Tuesday afternoon the market will be from 3:00pm – 6:00pm starting in June. Organizers said there will be no Tuesday markets in the month of May.
Saturday morning the market we will be on Exchange Street between Chicago and Van Buren, same as last year. On Tuesday, markets will be in the northeast corner of the municipal parking lot, same as last year.
