Freeport – Words cannot convey the depth of sadness that we feel here at Tri-County Christian School and throughout the community over the sudden loss of our dear friend, coach, and mentor, Pastor Steve Barr.
It has taken me until today to even have the strength to put my thoughts about Pastor Barr into words.
The emotion of the loss is so deep. Steve inspired all who were blessed to be in his presence. With our chapel theme this school year being, “Soul on Fire,” we anticipated the message that Pastor Barr would bring to us as he was the epitome of a “soul on fire”. Although we never got that opportunity this year, we find ourselves humbly thankful for the blessing of knowing this great man. His zest for life and his love for Christ exuded from his very being.
Steve’s passion and competitive nature served well as he mentored hundreds of young men through his over 20 years of coaching basketball at TCCS. Ultimately, beyond the skills, the drills, and the competition of the games, Steve was most interested in glorifying God through the use of His gifts and providing a Christian environment for players to develop their athletic talents. We are grateful to have been on the receiving end of his efforts for so many years.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Barr family; to Linnea, Matt, Ashly, Josh, Becca, Zeke, and Abby. May God give you strength and peace beyond human comprehension. We love you and are here to serve you in whatever way you need. You are family to us.
Psalm 112:6 states, “a righteous man will be remembered forever.” The memory of Steve leaves a legacy that spans generations. Until we meet our friend again, may we live each day to the fullest inspired by the example of Pastor Steve Barr.
