Two Shot On Rawleigh Avenue Tuesday Evening, Shooter(s) Still On The Loose
Freeport, Illinois — Two Freeport men sustain non-life threatening injuries after multiple gunshots are fired into a residence in the 1600 block of South Rawleigh Avenue.
On November 14th 2017, at approximately 10:41pm, Freeport Police Officers responded to a home in the 1600 block of S. Rawleigh Avenue in reference to a report of shots fired. At the home that was struck by gunfire, officers subsequently found a 25 year-old Freeport man and a 27 year-old Freeport man both suffering from non-life threatening gunshot injuries. The 25 year-year old victim was transported to Freeport Health Network (FHN) Memorial Hospital and then later transferred to an area hospital for further treatment. The 27 year-old victim was treated for a single gunshot wound and released from FHN Memorial Hospital.
The ensuing investigation revealed that unknown assailant(s) who were on foot in the area intentionally fired multiple gunshots into an occupied room at the back of a residence in the 1600 block of S. Rawleigh Avenue. It is believed that this was not a random act of violence; rather subjects inside the home that was struck by the gunfire were most likely specifically targeted. There is no suspect description available at this time.
During this investigation Makini Erving, age 35, of Freeport was arrested and charged with Unlawful Possession with Intent to Deliver Cannabis 30-500 grams. Erving’s arrest occurred when initial responding officers found him leaving the residence that was struck by gunfire. When officers encountered Erving he was found to be in possession of approximately 111 grams of suspected cannabis. At the time of his arrest, Makini Erving was on Parole from the Illinois Department of Corrections from a 2011 conviction for Manufacture/Delivery of Cocaine. Makini Erving was lodged at the Stephenson County jail in lieu of bond.
(Any person or persons depicted in this press release are presumed innocent by the court until proven guilty in a court of law.)

Ffs! Think I’ll stay here n hide under a rock!
So sad. Every time I come back to Freeport I get more and more disappointed. It’s going to be a good thing when all the people my age are gone because then there won’t be anyone to ponder on how great Freeport used to be. And it’s not just Freeport that is having these problems. It’s all over the place and it’s becoming our norm.
