Victim Identified In Early Sunday Morning Shooting That Injured Five Others

FREEPORT, ILLINOIS — The identity of the man who was killed early Sunday morning near the 900 block of S. Carroll Avenue has been released by the Freeport Police Department.

Freeport Police report that Laterryon Brumfield of Freeport, 23, was found around 12:19 a.m. when officers responded to a call of shots fired that left Brumfield dead, and five others injured. Brumfield was pronounced dead upon arrival at the area hospital.

Freeport Police responded to a shots fired call Sunday morning near the corner of S Carroll Avenue and Galena Avenue in Freeport that resulted in 6 different gunshot victims, with one dead.

The victims were transported to the Freeport Health Network Emergency room for care, police said. Two of the victims were transferred to other area hospitals due to their injuries.

One victim, a 26 year old male Freeport resident had a wound to the chest. Another victim, a 30 year old Freeport resident had a wound to the leg. Another victim, a 26 year old male Freeport resident had injuries to both arms. Another victim, a 28 year old female Freeport resident had injuries to the right leg. The last victim, a 19 year old female Cedarville resident had an injury to the hand.

At this time, there is no description of the suspect or suspects. The investigation is ongoing.
